Finding good firewood that burns well, giving off a lot of heat and lasting for a long time can be tricky. The main thing that makes logs burn well is if they are very dry, and have been seasoned properly.

Leaving logs to season naturally takes a lot of time, well over a year, and also means that a lot of good storage space is needed.

Kiln dried logs solve this problem.

By drying logs in a kiln the supplier can produce more wood in a shorter amount of time.

While kiln dried logs do tend to be slightly more expensive than naturally dried logs you know that they will burn well, and will be dry enough to produce a good amount of heat and less smoke.

As kiln dried logs also tend to be mass produced it means that there is more chance you will be able to buy in bulk, and not necessarily from a local supplier, meaning that there is more choice available, and more shopping around that can be done in order to get a good price.

Those companies that produce kiln dried logs also tend to do offers where you can also get coal and kindling delivered at a good combined price.

There really is nothing so welcoming as a log fire. Like a an ancient, pre-historic memory people are drawn to a blazing fire, warming hands, watching the flames, or just enjoying the glow. So if you have a fireplace it really is worth keeping a supply of logs for the winter, and lighting a fire.

You can buy in firewood, and it is worth thinking about this before the cold weather begins, or you can even gather some of your own. Fallen branches and twigs make good wood if you keep them in a dry place. Small pieces are good for kindling to get a fire started. And if you live near a beach then drift wood is also good for fire-wood and will burn with a variety of colours as the salts light. Before setting light to your fire make sure your chimney has been swept and is in good repair. Also invest in a fire-guard, and take care with any lighted fire, staying in the room while it is burning.

Kiln dried logs can provide some of the best wood for burning. The seasoning in the wood allows for a clean, long burn without a lot of smoke and impurities. A log fire will turn any room into a cosy, atmospheric space. What is better on a cold day than just sitting and chatting by the fire, watching the flames dance and feeling the heat warm the room? And you will be saving money on your heating bills.

There are few better feelings in the winter than sitting in front of a real fire , whether that is an open grate, a wodburning stove or a multi fuel burner. Getting the right fuel , however, is some times something which is left to chance. It can be tempting to pick up odd branches and fallen wood on your walks, or possibly use fallen wood from your own garden if you are lucky enough to have a large enough one. For most people however, it is necessary to locate a source of timber which can be delivered cut and ready for use , in sufficient quantities.

Again , it may be tempting to go just for the cheapest you can find, but the cheapest timber to buy may not be the most economical to use. All fire wood needs to be properly seasoned before it will burn properly. Wood which isn´t will not burn cleanly and will spit dangerously and produce too much smoke and / or tar. Even here however there are superior products.

The very best wood fuel you can buy is kiln dried timber which will have been air dried , then kiln dried and then air dried again. Usually Ash ,Beech or Oak or a mixture of the three, kiln dried logs have all the advantages of seasoned wood and more. They burn hotter and last longer than other firewood and so are more economical in the long run. When sourced locally they are also ecologically very sound, so well worth looking for.
